The History of De Rousch and the Beckers Family
The name De Rousch has its origins in the rushing waters of the Geleenbeek, which flows past the farm, or the rustling of the leaves of the trees along the stream. The picturesque farm, built in 1859, as evidenced by the keystone above the three elliptical arched gates, is located on the slope of the Geleen Valley and has served as a restaurant and event location under the name since 1965. Auberge De Rousch.
Beckers Family's hospitality history
The Beckers family's hospitality history starts at January 27, 1900, then Henri Beckers in de Limburger Courier announced that a “major Billard Competition” would take place at his hotel at Wilhelminaplein number 8, known as “”“In the room”. In addition to a hotel, it was a lively club room, where clubs such as the Coriovallum gymnastics club, the Heerlensche Wielrijdersclub and the First Heerlensche Kanary Association met regularly. After Henri's death, his wife continued the business, supported by their children Willy, Jan, Vic and Guillaume (Giel). In 1933 the original building was demolished before the construction of the Verlengde Dautzenbergstraat. Mother Beckers moved with her sons to Emmaplein, where she took over café Central and expanded it into a successful hotel-café-restaurant, despite the challenges of the economic crisis and the Second World War. Son Giel started in 1950 his own business, Castellum café-restaurant, on the Raadhuisplein, but the family remained active in the Heerlen hospitality industry.
The Rise of Auberge De Rousch
In 1965 opened Giel Beckers and his wife in the farm The Rousch a place to eat. The business was further developed by the following generations: Henri and Pascale Beckers, and now also Nigel Beckers made its appearance. In 1999-2000, the glass winter garden was built on the front façade. The “Pond Garden” added, along with an aluminium outbuilding.
Lovely overnight stay
In December 2019, the Beckers family expanded further with the purchase of”The Sister's Flat“, located at Henri Dunantstraat 1, behind Auberge De Rousch. After a major renovation of the 1956 tower and a brief interruption due to the corona pandemic, the family opened in January 2021 the beautiful Hôtel de Rousch. In this way, the Beckers family remains an indispensable force in the Heerlen hospitality industry and offers guests a unique experience in both Auberge de Rousch if Hôtel de Rousch.
